Drug of choice. This was first brought up in a conversation with friends from work in relation to Rico Yan's demise (Rico is a Filipino actor of my age) -- which was claimed by a few to be drug-related. Then came “Nirvana day” (Apr 8) -- when a local radio station played Nirvana songs all morning to pay respects to Mr. Cobain --it was his death anniversary…also pretty much drug-related. Then for some reason, this morning, while getting ready for work, I get this image of Trent Reznor in the video of– ‘The Perfect Drug’ – in my head. So I thought, that’s it… I need to settle this: What is my drug of choice? If it was Extasy for Rico, and some obscure “You” for Mr. Reznor, then what is Karyn’s perfect drug? Hmm… let’s see… a drug is something you don’t need, that you crave excessively, that you then spend a lot of money on… all because it makes you feel good (or high, maaan!)… Hmm… Tanduay Rhum can’t be my drug! I mean it was a lot of fun drinking it with friends in my hometown—but I didn’t feel good the next day… Hmm… what about nicotine… nah… doesn’t taste good after 4 sticks… caffeine? Couldn’t pass the ‘excessive’ test, I only drink 2 cups a day… Aha… I think I got it… let’s see… where was I yesterday? …The record store! … Last weekend? … The record store! 2 days before that? The record store! … Where am I going to be on Saturday… The record store! So there it goes folks… my drug of choice is MUSIC. I wake-up to it, I listen to it at work, I wonder about it over lunch (hmm… I wonder what is it about this John Mayer guy my friend likes… should I buy a tape or a cd? hmm..)… Heck, I think it’s the only good reason why I bought a car!!! ----Halleluja!!! I got it! I feel so free! Ang galing!! ----[happiness, jubilation] …Anyway, how about you? What is your drug of choice? I mean, we all have our own addictions...
